Sorry about the quality of the images, redpete forget to remind me to take my camera, so we only had a phone camera -rubbish aren't they?

Park up at the Ship Inn. I've found if you tell the bar staff that you are out hiking and will have a drink when you get back there's not a problem. otherwise you can pay in the R&C parks. If you do I would allow 4 hours to be on the safe side - it's about 7/8 miles.

Set off up to Huntcliff following the Cleveland Way signs - a hard start, a climb of about 250yds up steep steps. It gets easier after this but is still uphill until the path reaches the railway line. It runs adjacent to the railway 100yards or so past the metal sculptures. These are by Richard Farrington for those that don't know.

We keep to the Cleveland Way path for about another 3/4 of a miles, view of Skinningrove breakwater form here, and at the still we turn right towards the Cattersley Nature Reserve, you will see the sign pictured below'

There is a gate into the reserve but DO NOT take it, you will end up having to climb the barbwire fence later. Our path runs alongside with the fence on our right. - No I don't know why the gate is there

We carry on past the end of the golf course over the stile and turn right when we reach the farm track. This takes us under the railway line and on past Gripps Farm and up towards the village of Brotton -God's country!

Once we pass the gate there are some steps and our path turns left and after about ten yards we are on the pavement - CARE is needed here if you have little ones with you, we need to cross the road and pick up our path on the other side, down about 15yards.

We then take the path up through the field and over a stile between to houses. At the end of the path, continue up through the estate, using Winchester Road until we reach Kilton Lane. We turn right here and after 20 yards cross the road and pick up our path through the old cemetery. Follow the path down through the playing field past the pavilion and keeping the hedge on our right. At the end on the field the path drops down to the High Street -again CARE is needed here if you have children with you, the path ends at the High Street but there is no pavement on our side, we cross the road and walk down the High Street, under the railway bridge and straight on down to Woodside.

Just past the bus shelter on our right is the signposted footpath to Saltburn gill, we follow the path between the bungalows and this brings on to the wood top. We keep the woods on our left and follow the path, along past the Bennison Banks sign, as the woods fade away from our path bears slightly left, there is a footpath way marker on our left to let us know we are on the right one. It tends to be boggy here, even in the driest spells.

Follow the well defined path and you will come to the Saltburn Gill information sign, after this the path drops down through the woods down to the beck.

We do not cross the beck here, keep right. In fact we always have the beck on our left hand side until we get out of the woods. The path ,still well-defined, carries on, we need to climb some steep steps and descend the other side and 1/4 mile later we emerge at Mill Farm and the new pump house. You should be able to find your way to the car park or the Ship inn from here!

Thanks to Turners Lad & Redpete for providing the words and pictures.
